Jamshedpur, Sept 18: A 20-year-old youth Abhishek Lal was arrested for killing his friend following a dispute over a mobile phone.
A resident of Ranikudar in Kadma, Abhishek had shot dead his friend Vishal Prashad (26) in Bistupur on Saturday night only on the suspicion that the murder victim might have stolen his mobile phone.
In this connection, the police had registered a case against Abhishek and another youth identified as Shahrukh Khan on the FIR lodged by Mahavir Prasad, father of the murder victim.
Revealing about the breakthrough, SP (Rural), Rishab Garg said that they have already arrested Abhishek Lal having seized a sophisticated pistol from him whereas his associate Shahrukh Khan is still absconding.
“Abhishek was arrested from near Ramdas Bhatta community centre late on Saturday night. Shahrukh who is also a named accused in the case will also be arrested soon, ” said Garg who is also officiating as City SP while addressing a press conference on Monday.
The police officer stated that the police had conducted raids at Shahrukh’s house in Dhatkidih more than once but the accused managed to remain absconding.
Garg who is doubling up as City SP said that Shahrukh Khan was present at the spot along the side of Abhishek Lal when Vishal was shot dead.
On Saturday morning, Abhishek had lost his mobile phone somewhere near his house. For Abhishek, Vishal had stolen the mobile phone and to bring it back, he had gone to Vishal’s house in Ramdas Bhatta in Bistupur on Saturday morning.
Despite repeated pleas by Vishal that he had not taken his mobile phone, Abhishek had insisted that it was he who had stolen the phone. An apparently angry Abhishek had brandished a pistol at Vishal in front of the murder victim’s mother, threatening with dire consequences if his phone is not returned soon.
In the night Abhishek visited Vishal’s house once again and took him along out of the house. Late in the night, someone from the Ramdas Bhatta locality informed the victim’s parents that Vishal was lying in a pool of blood near the Ramdas Bhatta community centre. Soon the anxious parents rushed the victim to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emerging duty declared the injured as brought dead.
According to police, the victim’s parents had taken Abhishek’s threat in a lighter vein and had not objected to allowing their son to go with Abhishek when the latter had come to their house in the night again.
