Jamshedpur, Sept 29: In a late night swoop, a group of three youths killed a 30-year-old youth and inflicted serious injuries to others at a house in Saldih Bustee under Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
The murder victim was identified as Bindu Sundi, a petty businessman.
The incident took place at about 11 pm while Bindu was sitting along with his younger brother and some of his friends at his home in the densely-populated Saldih Bustee which is an urban slum about four kms away from the heart of the steel city.
The attackers who were also from the same slum had fled the spot, leaving Bindu and two others, Mintu Melgandi and Babu Sundi, in a pool of blood after the intervention of the neighbours.
The local residents had subsequently rushed all the three injured to Tata Main Hospital, where the doctors on emergency duty declared Bindu to be dead.
Police said the reason behind such attack in a thickly-populated slum like Saldih Bustee is not yet clear but it might be due to business rivalry.
“Those attacked at Sundi’s house have been identified as Raja, Judhistir and Jairam, all brothers, but the reason behind it is yet to be established. All the three attackers are absconding, ” said Adityapur thana OC Rajendra Kumar Mahto.
Significantly, the bereaved family members and the agitated residents of the slum have mounted pressure on the police by declaring that they would not receive the body from the Tata Main Hospital morgue until the assailants were not arrested.
Mahto claimed to have been conducting raids at places in and around Adityapur for the arrest of the accused.
