Jamshedpur, July 3: A 27-year-old youth was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants at Adityapur Muslim Bustee under Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday night.
The victim identified as Firoz Khan was wandering around on a road near his house at the Adityapur Muslim Bustee late in the night when the criminals came on a bike and fled the scene having shot him from close range.
Hearing the gunshot sound, the residents of the locality came out from their houses to find Firoz writhing on the ground in a pool of blood. Some of them rushed the injured to Tata Main Hospital, a 10 minutes ride from the spot. The doctors on emergency duty declared the victim as brought dead.
The shooting incident at the infamous Adityapur Muslim Bustee triggered a sensation, leading the police to swing into action for detecting the assailants.
Though no word has come from the Adityapur thana — located at a stone-throw distance from the Adityapur Muslim Bustee, the relatives maintained that Firoz had been warned of dire consequences by one Mohammed Khursheed.
“Firoz had been warned not to step out of the bustee, but he was shot dead while he was moving on foot in his own locality. The man responsible for the murder must be Khursheed only as the latter had warned the victim with dire consequences, ” said a relative while speaking to the newsmen.
It may be mentioned here that Adityapur Muslim Bustee is a sale-cum-supply hub for “brown sugar” and other narcotic substances.
As more than one gang are engaged in the racket, gang rivalry between the drug peddlers and drug suppliers always remains a cause of concern for local residents as well as the police. A similar murder had taken place at Adityapur Muslim Bustee four months ago, leading the police to take a pledge to eliminate the “brown sugar” menace from the bustee, but the problem stands as it was earlier.
