Youth shot dead in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Dec 22: A youth identified as Rohit Paswan was shot dead by unidentified criminals near Rupnagar Chowk in Sonari late on Tuesday night.

A woman, Pramila Devi, said to be a member of the Paswan gang also sustained bullet injuries in the firing incident.

She had a close shave as the bullet pierced through her palm. She was rushed to the MGM Medical College and Hospital while the youth was taken to the Tata Main Hospital where doctors declared him as being brought dead.

Soon after the firing incident which took place around 10.40 pm  DSP headquarters – I Birendra Ram and officer- in- charge of Sonari police station Anjani Kumar reached the spot and started an investigation. Quick Response Team ( QRT)  was also deployed at the spot .

Raj Singh, a close associate of Rohit who was accompanying the latter on a  separate bike when the firing took place, told police that they were returning from Uliyan in Kadma after celebrating Rohit’s birthday when the tragedy took place.

” Rohit was pillion riding with his friend Guddu Goswami. When they reached near Rupnagar a group of youths who were waiting at the spot opened fire. They also pelted stones at him before fleeing the spot, ” said Raj Singh to police.

Rohit lay in a pool of blood at the spot for about 20 minutes and was later rushed to Tata Main Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The woman sustained bullet injuries as she came out of her house after getting the firing sound. She thought someone was bursting firecrackers.

Raids continued till late in the night to nab the culprits. Police said no arrests have been made so far and that raids were still continuing.
