Ranchi: BJP state president Babulal Marandi has raised serious concerns about the 108 ambulance service in Jharkhand. Taking to social media, he pointed out that this critical emergency medical service, which is a lifeline for the public, is facing severe challenges. According to reports, the response time of ambulances has significantly deteriorated. While the prescribed average response time is 25 minutes in urban areas and 40 minutes in rural areas, the actual situation is far worse.
Ambulances Delayed for Over 60 Minutes
Marandi highlighted instances where ambulances fail to reach even after 60 minutes of a call, putting patients’ lives at immense risk. He noted that in emergencies, where even a delay of five minutes can be fatal, ambulances in Jharkhand are arriving 20 to 30 minutes late. This delay in providing timely medical aid has led to preventable deaths. Out of the total 543 ambulances in the state, 77 are reportedly out of service due to poor maintenance.
One Ambulance for Every 21,000 People? Not in Jharkhand
As per norms, there should be one ambulance for every 21,000 people. However, in Jharkhand, this ratio exceeds 34,000, reflecting poor resource allocation and management. Marandi criticized the administration for its failure to provide timely assistance, urging the Chief Minister to address this issue urgently.
He further demanded robust measures and adequate resources to ensure that no Jharkhandi loses their life due to lack of treatment and delayed ambulance services.
