Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences could not utilize a major portion of its allocated budget for the financial year 2025–26, returning ₹205 crore to the government. Out of the total ₹300 crore sanctioned for development projects, the institute managed to spend only ₹85 crore.

Delayed Approvals Stall Key Projects

The unspent funds were primarily meant for constructing a new OPD complex and a 500-bed super-speciality wing, both of which remain incomplete. Officials cited delays in approvals from the RIMS governing council and late processing of files by the health department as key reasons for the failure to execute these projects within the financial year.

Limited Spending on Repairs and Equipment

The ₹85 crore that was utilized went towards renovation of hospital infrastructure and procurement of essential medical equipment, including MRI, CT scan, and radiotherapy machines. However, the larger infrastructure expansion plans could not be implemented on time.

Fresh Tenders Likely in New Financial Year

Authorities have indicated that the pending projects will be reinitiated in the new financial year through fresh tenders. The delay has raised concerns about planning efficiency and timely utilization of public funds in one of Jharkhand’s largest government healthcare institutions.
