Ranchi, July 30: Going beyond the call of duty, a team of Sadar Hospital doctors did first laparoscopic appendix surgery.
The patient was a 6-year old child who came during surgery OPD with severe abdominal pain half an hour before the end of OPD.
After examination was carried out a lot of swelling in the appendix was observed and it was realized that due to which the child was in a lot of pain. Due to poor family conditions, the family members were not able to get the operation done outside.
The child’s father is a temporary employee of the Malaria Department of Sadar Hospital itself. He requested Dr. Ajit of the Surgery department and Dr. Pankaj Sinha of the department of Anesthesia and Savita Kumari, Sister In-charge of OT, to help the boy.
Usually, the OPD and routine IT get closed at 3:00 PM, still the doctors going beyond the call of duty agreed for the operation considering the critical condition of the patient.
Since the age of the child was only 6 years old. Thus it required an expert surgeon and anesthesia doctor to make him completely sedated and operate the appendix with laparoscopy through a binocular method.
As it was an emergency case and the patient was a child the risk factor was high special permission was obtained from the deputy superintendent of the hospital and the civil Surgeon for this operation.
Finally, the operation was done through a very small hole, due to which the child’s stomach was saved from getting irritated. The child is expected to go to his home in a day or two.
The surgery team comprised surgeon Dr Ajit Kumar and anesthesiologist Dr. Pankaj Sinha besides sisters including Savita, Neeraj, Pranav, Nandini and others.
