120 dead in South Korea stampede, Prez declares national mourning

New Delhi, Oct 30: Halloween celebration in the South Korean capital Seoul on Saturday night turned into a tragedy as 151 people died and 82 were injured in a stampede at a prominent market. Victims in the age group of 20s were most affected by the accident, reported Yonhap news agency, citing the authorities.

The authorities said 97 women and 54 men were killed in the stampede and foreigners killed in the incident included those from Iran, Uzbekistan, China and Norway.

South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol has declared a national mourning period over a stampede during Halloween festivities. The president said it was so miserable to see such a disaster happening in the heart of Seoul, the Yonhap news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the South Korean national flag atop the Embassy of Korea in New Delhi flew at half-mast as the country mourns the death of at least 151 people in Seoul’s Halloween stampede on Sunday.
