Dhanbad, Feb 7: A total of 128 MBBS seats out of 450 were left vacant in five medical colleges of state after the first counseling was conducted from February 4 to 7.
As per the official record of medical colleges, the highest admissions on 74 MBBS seats out of 100 were taken in Phulo Jhano Murmu Medical College Hospital (PJMMCH) Dumka. It was followed by 73 in Mednirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu and 72 seats in Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh.
In the two other medical colleges, admission on 70 MBBS seats was taken in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur.
The principal of the institution Dr. KN Singh said that 35 boys and 35 girl students took admission in the scheduled period of first counselling fixed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) across the country.
At Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, admission was taken on 33 MBBS seats including two central government nominees in the scheduled period which concluded on Monday evening.
SNMMCH admission in-charge Dr. Ganesh Kumar said that the remaining 17 vacant seats are likely to be filled up in the second counselling.
SNMMCH Dhanbad has only 50 MBBS seats in which state quota has only 41 seats. Seven seats are reserved for the CBSE quota and two for central government nominees.
The other four medical colleges of state PJMMCH Dumka, MMCH Palamu, SBMCH Hazaribagh and MGMMCH Jamshedpur have 100 MBBS seats each of which 17 seats are reserved for CBSE (15) and central government nominee (2).
In the first round of counseling, the highest 30 MBBS seats remained vacant in MGMMCH Jamshedpur followed by 28 in Hazaribagh medical college, 27 in Palamu medical college and 26 in Dumka medical college.
Dr. S K Singh, the principal of Hazaribagh when contacted said that 72 students took admission and the paper of two others is pending that is likely to be completed in the evening today.
MGMMCH principal Dr. KN Singh said that his college has geared up to start classes from February 14 as per the directive of NMC.
