Jamshedpur, July 5: 13 B. Tech students of Adityapur- based NIT Jamshedpur in neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district have tested positive for Covid -19, as per the test report that arrived on Monday evening.

The students who tested positive have been isolated and quarantined within the campus and kept under observation. Sources said three of the students were admitted to the Tata Main Hospital last night.

The NIT administration, in collaboration with Seraikela- Kharsawan district administration, conducted tests on resident students.

Around 500 students are currently staying on the campus while others will return to the campus only after the completion of the summer vacation on July 17.

The institute has taken a proactive approach under the NIT policy for Covid-19 and by creating isolation areas on the campus to combat, contain and manage the spread of infection.

“Students who tested positive are isolated on the campus with self-contained rooms and room service facilities. Medical supplies, food and counselling services are also being provided by the institute in keeping with the guidelines issued by the Jharkhand government. Director KK Shukla went around the campus supervising the arrangements. He also passed necessary directives to check the spread of the virus. We are monitoring the situation closely to ensure full recovery and rule out any chance of spread,” said  S K Bhagat, the NIT spokesperson.

Advisories have also been issued by the administration to other campus residents to strictly follow social distancing, wear masks and comply with the institute’s policy on Covid-19 and the directions of the state government.

Meanwhile, the Seraikela- Kharsawan district reported 14 Covid positive cases on Monday.
