Dhanbad, Oct 14: The battle of supremacy between Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof Sukhdeo Bhoi and SSLNT Women’s College principal Dr Sharmila Rani in Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad finally ended with the former’s dismissal.
Though the Chancellor ( Governor) office notification said the V-C has been sacked on the basis of administrative and financial irregularities, insiders in the university claim Prof Bhoi has paid the price for clashing with SSLNT Women’s College principal Dr Sharmila Rani.

For the last five months ( since June) both had been on a confrontation course after Bhoi transferred Dr Sharmila Rani to BSK College Maithon as principal and posted Dr AK Maji as principal-in-charge of SSLNT Women’s College.

When Dr Sharmila Rani refused to join at 45 km away BSK College Maithon, the V-C seized her financial power. Dr Sharmila Rani is the lone commissioned principal in BBMKU and has the strong support of the IAS lobby in Ranchi. She not only got her transfer order stayed from Raj Bhawan but also filed a petition against Bhoi levelling large-scale administrative and financial irregularities.

A senior professor of the university said that a direct clash between the vice-chancellor and SSLNT Women’s College principal started when Bhoi demanded a heavy amount in the name of development from all the constituent colleges. All the principals paid but Dr Sharmila Rani refused to do. Rattled by her defiance, the V-C transferred her to BSK College Maithon.
The senior professor said Bhoi did not stop there. When Rani got a stay order from Raj Bhawan, the V-C set up a high-level committee against her to probe the suicide attempt of a lady teacher in SSLNT Women’s College in July.
He said that Bhoi had constructed a pool of corruption in the university. Whenever any officer opposed his wrong decisions either he was sacked or sidelined. The Raj Bhawan had in March 2022 appointed Dr BN Singh finance officer (FO) of BBMKU. The then V-C in-charge Mukul Narayan Deo had no problem with Dr BN Singh. But in June 2022 when Dr Bhoi joined, he forced Dr Singh to resign. Sources said Dr Singh refused to sign a bill for illegal payment at the meeting.
