Lucknow: In a significant breakthrough, three Khalistani terrorists accused of hurling a grenade at a police post in Gurdaspur, Punjab, were killed in an encounter with a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police in Pilibhit. The encounter, which took place late last night, involved an intense exchange of gunfire after the accused opened fire on the police.
The terrorists, identified as Gurwinder Singh, Virendra Singh, and Jasanpreet Singh, succumbed to their injuries. Two AK-series rifles and two Glock pistols were recovered from the scene.
Pakistan-Sponsored Khalistan Module
According to Punjab Police, the three terrorists were part of a Pakistan-backed module of the Khalistan Zindabad Force, known for orchestrating grenade attacks on police establishments in Punjab’s border regions.
“This terror module is linked to recent grenade attacks targeting police posts in Gurdaspur and other border areas. The encounter in Puranpur, Pilibhit, was a coordinated effort by Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police. Investigations are underway to uncover the entire network,” Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated on X.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar lauded the operation, calling it a “daredevil job” and an excellent example of interstate police coordination.
Recent Khalistani Activities
The encounter follows a spate of attacks on police stations in Punjab over the past week:
•A grenade attack on the Bangar police post in Gurdaspur on Friday.
•A blast at Islamabad police station in Amritsar on Tuesday.
•Another explosion outside the Bakshiwal police post, also in Gurdaspur.
Though no casualties were reported in these incidents, security agencies suspect the involvement of Khalistani terrorists. An unverified social media post attributed responsibility for the attacks to the Khalistan Zindabad Force.
Hideout Foiled in Pilibhit
Sources revealed that the terrorists had moved to Pilibhit, approximately 750 km from Gurdaspur, seeking refuge in an area with a notable Sikh population. However, Uttar Pradesh police reported receiving full support from local residents in tracking the suspects.
