Visakhapatnam: India strengthened its naval capabilities with the induction of advanced warship INS Taragiri and indigenous nuclear submarine INS Aridhaman into the Indian Navy. The ceremony marked a significant step in enhancing maritime security and strategic deterrence.

Advanced Capabilities of INS Aridhaman

INS Aridhaman, weighing around 7,000 tonnes, is India’s third indigenous nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. It is equipped with K-4 missiles capable of striking targets up to 3,500 km away, significantly boosting India’s second-strike capability. The submarine can launch nuclear attacks from deep underwater, reinforcing the country’s strategic defense posture.

INS Taragiri Enhances Surface Warfare Strength

The induction of INS Taragiri adds to India’s surface combat strength with its advanced missile systems and modern warfare technology. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the warship as a symbol of India’s growing maritime power and self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

Strategic Importance of Naval Expansion

Highlighting the importance of naval strength, Rajnath Singh noted that India’s long coastline and heavy dependence on sea routes for trade and energy security make a strong navy essential. He emphasized that over 95% of India’s trade is conducted via maritime routes, underlining the critical role of naval modernization in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
