Ranchi, Sept.22: On the occasion of the 72nd  Van Mahotsav, a tree plantation was done by the Forest Department in Gandhi Gram on the banks of Getalsud Dam located in Angara block, which got submerged after a few days.  Almost all the plants died due to submergence.  After which, in the past, the president of Jharkhand Rajya Awar Van Sewa Sangh, Kameshwar Prasad, had knocked on the door of the Jharkhand High Court regarding this entire matter.  After the matter reached the threshold of the High Court, the present Mahilong Ranger, stating the routine work, got the plantation done again in the place of the plant that died due to drowning, but once again after a few days, those new plants have also been submerged which the department had planted.

The 72nd Van Mahotsav was started by planting trees in Gandhigram on the banks of Getalsud Dam.  A grand programme was organized during the Van Mahotsav, in which Chief Minister Hemant Soren, local MLA Rajesh Kachhap, including many senior officials of the Forest Department also participated.  A total of 30,000 saplings were planted within a radius of 10 km in the said area.

According to the villagers, the site selected for the plantation falls in the submerged area.  Every year this area gets submerged.  The forest department officials were informed about this by the villagers.  Despite this, that area was selected for plantation by the then Mahilong Ranger Rakesh Kumar Singh and for the second time, the plantation area has been submerged.  Now it will be interesting to see whether action is taken against the officials responsible for this.

Kameshwar said that the black deeds are not going to hide. The whole matter is clear.  This is totally a matter of corruption.  Whereas the present Ranger Rajesh Kumar is making every effort to save the plants which have been planted.  This year there has been more rain than last year due to which the area got submerged, he said.
