Dumka, Dec 20: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) celebrated its 58th raising day on Monday at Vijaypur based camp of its 35th battalion here. It assumed special significance this time as altogether four Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) were formally handed over to the recipients in a function organised simultaneously in New Delhi the same day.

Commandant Satish Kumar of the 35th SSB battalion said all the four Bravehearts including Assistant Commandant Narpat Singh, head constables Pradeep Kumar and Bhim Singh and constable Ganesh Singh Rana comprised the Small Action Team (SAT) which is the guerilla warfare unit of the central armed forces, who had displayed exemplary courage and raw grit and nutralised the dreaded naxal commander Sahdeo Rai alias Tala Da along with his associate during an anti- naxal operation taking place in the forests of Gopikandar police station area of the district in 2018.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered in the operation which were abandoned by other rebels accompanying their dreaded commander who however preferred to escape.

“The killing of Sahdeo Rai has proved to be the last nail in the coffin of the rebel group operating in Dumka and adjoining districts which is almost extinct as of now,” the SSB Commandant said, adding that the PMG to all the four personnel were announced on the Republic Day event in 2020 which were formally conferred on them in a gala event organised by the union ministry of home affairs on Monday.

“It is a matter of great pride for us that all the four recipients of the PMG belong to our battalion who displayed their vigour even by risking their lives while being in the fight with hardcore rebels,” he added.

Different sports events and parades were also organised at the Vijaypur based camp of the 35 th SSB battalion been attended by senior administrative and police officials.
