Dhanbad, Dec 7: 60 out of 450 MBBS seats are still vacant in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, and Palamu medical colleges of state after the 2nd round of counseling of 2022-23 academic sessions.
As per the official record, the highest number of vacant MBBS seats (18) are in MGM Medical College & Hospital (MGMMCH), Jamshedpur, and the lowest vacant seats (7) are in Medini Rai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Palamu. Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMC), Dhanbad has also only 7 seats vacant after the 2nd counseling.

Prof ( Dr ) Atul Prakash, head of the department physiology cum admission nodal officer of MMCH, Palamu said, “Only 93 out of 100 students have taken admission so far. However, two reserved seats of the state quota and 5 out of 15 reserved seats of all India quota are still vacant. All two central nominee quotas have been filled up”.
At MGMMCH, a total of 82 out of 100 seats have been filled in the 2nd counseling. Dr. NK Singh, the principal of the college said, “Four reserved seats of state quota and 13 seats of all India quota are still vacant. Only two students of all India quota ( total of 15) have taken admission. Moreover, one out of two seats of the central nominee is also vacant”.
At Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital (PJMCH), Dumka, 13 seats out of 100 are vacant. Dr. Arun Kumar Choudhary, the principal of the institution said, “ 80 out of 83 reserved seats of state quota have been filled. In 15 seats of all India quota, one student upgraded to another medical college, and 7 took admission. Nine seats are still vacant. One seat out of two central nominees is also vacant”.
Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH), Hazaribag have left only 15 out of 100 MBBS seat vacant after 2nd counseling. Dr. SK Singh, the principal of the institution said, “ Six seats out of 83 are vacant in state quota and 9 out of 15 are vacant in all India reserved seats. However, two seats of central nominees have been filled up”.
Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College, Dhanbad has permission for only 50 MBBS seats, out of which 43 students have taken admission and 7 seats are still vacant. Admission in-charge Dr. Ganesh Kumar said that 3 seats of state and all India quota and one seat of the central nominee are still vacant.
Dr. SK Singh, Director of Medical Education of the state health department said that all the seats in medical colleges would be filled up in the mop-up round.
