New Delhi, June 9: The Saket Court postponed its decision on applications seeking worshipping rights for Hindus and Jains inside the Qutub Minar complex.
The case was postponed until August 24 when the court learned that a new application had been submitted in the case.
Previously, the Court had set June 9, 2022, as the deadline for issuing a ruling, while the order reserved on an appeal involving the restoration of 27 Hindu and Jain temples in Mehrauli’s Qutub Minar complex.
On Thursday, Additional District Judge Dinesh Kumar stated that the fresh application would be heard and decided first. The court noted that Kunwar Mahender Dhwaj Pratap Singh, claiming to be an heir of the United Provinces of Agra, had filed an impleadment suit stating that the Qutub Minar belonged to him and that the minaret, together with the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque, should be granted to him. He was represented by ML Sharma, an attorney.
Counsels for both Archaeological Survey of India and Plaintiffs submit that they are opposing the impleadment application. Counsel for the Archaeological Survey of India argued against the appeal, claiming that Qutub Minar is a monument and that no one has a fundamental right to it. The Qutub Minar Complex is a monument, according to the Ancient Monuments Act, and no right of worship can be conferred there.
