New Delhi: Pakistan has reportedly deployed 250 Chinese-made SH-15 truck-mounted self-propelled howitzer artillery systems along its border with India, with sources indicating that the Pakistani Army has begun stationing these 155mm Chinese guns at key sectors along its eastern border adjacent to India.

Pakistan Continues Military Modernisation Since Operation Sindoor

According to the report, citing senior intelligence sources, Pakistan has been engaged in an ongoing effort to modernise its military, a process that has intensified since India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025.

SH-15 System Built by Chinese Defence Firm NORINCO

The SH-15 artillery system is manufactured by China’s state-owned defence company NORINCO and serves as the export variant of the People’s Liberation Army’s PCL-181 wheeled self-propelled howitzer. The system is mounted on a 6×6 armoured Shaanxi truck chassis, allowing it to be easily transported and capable of reaching speeds of up to 90 km/h on roads.

Artillery Platform Boasts Long-Range Strike Capability

According to sources, the 155mm/52-calibre artillery platform can strike targets approximately 30-40 km away using NATO-compatible standard ammunition, with its range extending to 53-72 km when using rocket-assisted V-LAP projectiles. The system is also equipped with an automated fire-control system and hydraulic stabilising spades, enabling crews to deploy it quickly and fire up to six rounds per minute.
