Ranchi, June 16: The Amity University in Jharkhand, which charges lakhs from students in the name of fees, has often claimed to have done several top post placements since its inception here in 2016. Officials have taken the names of big-shot companies and said that several students have received placements from them for good packages.

However, some of the former students of the university in Jharkhand say otherwise. Rahul (name changed), presently managing his own business, is a former student of the 2016-18 batch of Management. When questioned about the placement opportunities provided to him as a student, he said, “I remember that we were offered data entry jobs as a placement opportunity. We would have had to go to places like Hyderabad or Bangalore and work at very low-level positions. We were offered pay of around Rs 10000-15000.”

He further added, “Mine was the very first batch, however, I stayed connected to my juniors, who reported the very same problem. Some didn’t take the job, while some had to, because they had no other options. They had already paid a load of money to the institute, and now they needed to earn.”

Pramod, a student of the 2018-21 batch of BJMC said, “We were given placements at Zee News at intern positions. We would have had to work our way up. That would have been fine, if we would have had the surety that we would stay, even after the internship. Some BJMC students were even placed in institutions like BYJUs, in sales and marketing.”

A former employee of the university Manish (name changed) in this regard said, “Before Covid, we would have pool campusing, and in case of placements, there were instances, wherein officials from the banking sector would meet and interview BTech students for marketing opportunities. MBA students would be provided data entry-level jobs with minimum wages. Some MBA students were also sent to Outlook for sales when I was with Amity.”

“There was a time when Amity could not provide placements to students despite promises and students had to find jobs on their own, however, the situation seems to have improved after Covid, I hear. I have been told that students are now receiving opportunities from Gurgaon, due to Amity Noida. I hope this change is for the better,” he added.

On the other hand, students such as Arjun (name changed) of 2017-20 have commended the opportunities and exposure provided to the students. Talking to lagatar24.com correspondent, he said, “My batch had received several offers for placement, however, I chose for higher studies. Meanwhile, some friends were working with the local news channels and papers.”

When questioned about the issues that his batch had to face, he said, “I don’t think there were many issues. I remember serious scholars being selected in reputed firms including Times of India, and Times Now among others, however, it was these students mostly, that worked hard for those placements.”

“I know that Amity provides good exposure to students from my personal experience. But I also believe Amity did not have the proper reach earlier to provide the right kind of opportunities to students. I think they need to work on their command on their links and bonds in the city if they want better opportunities for their students. They should work on creating a strong bridge between industry and organisation,” Manish added.

He further said, “However, now, I have heard that the university now places students in three ways. This year it has centralised its placements and teamed up with Amity Noida to provide better opportunities after the pandemic.”

Meanwhile, the director of Amity Ranchi could not be contacted regarding the same.
