Ranchi, June 17: As the PIL seeking a NIA probe into Friday violence in Ranchi is set to be heard tomorrow, the petitioner also filed a supplementary petition alleging the state government for shielding suspects involved in the riot.

The petitioner, Pankaj Yadav, was represented by his lawyer Rajiv Kumar on Thursday who requested the court for an early hearing. Conceding the request, the court listed this PIL 2683/2020 for hearing on Friday (June 17). The petitioner has stated the Ranchi police displayed pictures of the suspects of the riot in the public places on the instruction of the Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais. Pankaj Yadav said that Home Secretary Rajiv Arun Ekka issued a show-cause notice to the Ranchi SSP and has asked to explain why pictures of suspects were displayed in public places. Speaking to Lagatar24.com, Rajiv Kumar said that the above action of the state government raises doubt about whether it is really serious about the threat.

The petitioner has further brought a new fact to the notice of the court that one of the arrested accused Nawab Chisti of Manitola under Doranda police station area is well connected with a cabinet minister, MLA and other politicians of the ruling parties. Hence, local police can’t investigate it properly so the matter should be handed over to the NIA.
