Ranchi, June 18: Security personnel deputed for anti-Naxal operations in the forests of Jharkhand today recovered as many as nine IEDs from two different places.
Four IEDs were recovered from Herhanj forest in Palamu district, about 200 km from Ranchi and five IEDs were recovered from Tilsalaiya forest under Chatra district, about 100km from the capital. They were planted to harm the security personnel at an opportune moment. LPG gas cylinders were used to prepare IEDs.
In Chatra, the Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan said that along with IEDs, one extremist associated with the Tritiya Prastuti Committee was also arrested from the district.
Meanwhile, a Maoist carrying an award of Rs one lakh on his head, Jatru Kherwar, today surrendered before police at Lohardaga, about 60km from the Jharkhand capital.
He was the area commander of the extremist organisation. He was associated with a hardcore squad, led by Ravindra Ganjhu on which a bounty of Rs 15 lakh has been declared.
A total of 17 cases are registered against Kherwar at different police stations in Lohardaga and Gumla districts.
He is a resident of Putarar village under the Pesharar police station area of the district. His father’s name is Late Sokro Kherwar. After a reward of one lakh rupees was announced on Jatru Kherwar, he became the area commander.
