Ranchi, June 19: The Jharkhand government has approved pending scholarships for the Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Classes (BC) students of Jharkhand. Notably, this scholarship will be given under the scheme ‘E-Kalyan Jharkhand Portal’.

The Minister of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes Welfare Affairs Champai Soren has given instructions to officials to distribute scholarships. Soren gave this information on a tweet stating, ‘All the District Welfare Officers have been instructed to complete the payment of pending scholarships of applicants who have got the final approval registered on the e-Kalyan portal in the next two weeks. All District Welfare Officers (DWOs) should ensure that the payment is made at the earliest.’

An official of the Scheduled Tribes Department said that the payment of the scholarship scheme was not done in the last three months (January to March – 2022) of the financial year 2021-22. This was due to the pandemic, due to which the examination was not taken in many educational institutions within the stipulated time frame.

Apart from this, there was also the problem of funds. As a result, SC, ST, and OBC children could not get scholarships. However, by then all the paperwork had been completed. After the fund has been received for the budget of 2022-23, officials have been directed to release the funds.

Earlier, all the paperwork had been completed with the children of the above mentioned categories. Final approval was also received from the department for the scholarship. However, due to nonpayment of the scholarship students had pleaded with minister Soren regarding the matter. In view of this, the minister took the decision and instructed all the officers.

Notably, the Jharkhand e-welfare scholarship is provided to the children by the state government. Under this scheme, three scholarship schemes are run by the government, which are Pre Matric Scholarship, Post Matric Scholarship (within the state) and Post Matric Scholarship (outside the state). Pre Matric Scholarship consists of Pre Matric SC Scheme, Pre Matric ST Scheme and Pre Matric BC Scheme. At the same time, Post Matric Scholarship includes Post Matric SC Scheme, Post Matric ST Scheme and Post Matric BC Scheme.
