Jamshedpur, June 28: India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert of heavy rain in isolated pockets of northern Jharkhand on Wednesday.

Weathermen at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre said northern and one or two places in central Jharkhand were likely to experience heavy showers today.

“Some places would also witness thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain on Wednesday,” said a duty officer at Ranchi Met Centre.

Satellite pictures suggested that an east-west trough was running from northwest Rajasthan to west-central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha coast across northeast Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh extending up to 0.9 km above the mean sea level.

The overcast condition was expected to prevail in most districts of northern and central Jharkhand today, as per the IMD forecast.

Notably, the rainfall activity was restricted for the last three days as the monsoon trough had slightly drifted northwards.

The absence of a good shower show resulted in a deficit which currently stands at 47 percent.

According to rain statistics, Jharkhand as a whole has so far after the onset of monsoon received around 89 per cent rain against a normal of 170.3 per cent, a deficit of 47 percent.

The maximum temperature in Ranchi is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius today while Jamshedpur is expected to record a day’s reading of around 36 degrees Celsius.

The day reading in the Palamau region is expected to witness a fall today. The day’s reading was hovering around 37-38 degrees Celsius at Daltonganj and other parts of Palamau for the last couple of days.
