Jaipur, July 2: Muhammad Riaz and Ghouse Muhammad, the two killers involved in Udaipur’s tailor Kanhaiya Lal’s murder, have been taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) a day after formally taking over the investigation.

The two killers were taken into custody by an NIA squad early on Saturday morning when they arrived at the high security jail in Rajasthan’s Ajmer. They are currently being moved to Jaipur under under security. They’ll appear in court today.

Meanwhile, according to intelligence sources, Salman Haider and Abu Ibrahim, two handlers with ties to Pakistan, were said to have indoctrinated Muhammad Riaz and Ghouse Muhammad.

According to the sources, Haider and Ibrahim had been pressuring the two accused to launch a significant assault following the argument over Nupur Sharma’s comments concerning Prophet Mohammed.

Ghouse and Riaz allegedly tried to set up the use of explosives like RDX in terror attacks. The two claimed to have discussed “doing something big.”

The two cleaver-wielding men, Riaz and Ghouse, beheaded tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Tuesday. They uploaded a graphic video of the killing online and claimed credit. A few hours after the crime, Rajsamand police detained both of the accused. Apparently, they were connected to Dawat-e-Islami, a Pakistan-based religious outfit.

The NIA is conducting an investigation into a case that has been filed under the strict Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) with assistance from the Rajasthan Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad and Special Operations Group.

The murder case was referred to the NIA by an Udaipur court on Friday. Three more suspects have so far been taken into custody, and more than ten persons have been detained in connection with the case.
