Ranchi, July 2: Sadar Hospital Chatra, which is already understaffed, is going to remove 13 more health workers on July 12.
A total of 33 medical personnel of this hospital were also removed by the health department on June 28. This has come as a surprise when the number of Covid cases is on the rise in the state.
The Civil Surgeon of Chatra Dr Shyam Nandan Singh said that the step has been taken by the department as the health workers were brought in during the pandemic and now the hospital does not require their duties.
He added that on July 12, 13 more health workers will be relieved from their duties and the hospital with 13 OPD will now be reduced to only one OPD.
“Our hospital has a capacity of 74 doctors but currently, we are functioning on just 28 doctors. Many times, we have to be present in the hospital for more than 20 hours as there is an acute shortage of staff,” he said.
He also said that the officials from the hospital will soon write a letter to DC and SCS requesting more staff in the hospital.
According to the data provided in Chatra District Portal, there are a total of five community health centres (CHC), eight primary health centres (PHC) and 93 Health sub-centres (HSC) in and around Chatra. However, the majority of these health centres also have the same issue as the Sadar hospital in Chatra.
From July 13, the hospital will be dependent on just four doctors. Recently, Dr Aarti and Dr Abhishek were transferred to other districts and Dr Anurag has also resigned regarding his PG studies. The hospital will be dependent on Dr Sanjay Dr Siddharth, Dr Mahendra Prasad, Dr Manish Lal and Dr Arvind Keshari.
Apart from OPD, doctors will have to look after the emergency ward, post-mortem room, ambulance, labour room and SNCU. In such a case, a situation of chaos can also take place as there are only four doctors.
