Dhanbad, July 2: The traders of Dhanbad on Saturday staged day-long fasting under Bank More Chamber of Commerce Association against the continuous power crisis during prime time in the district.

The traders led by Surendra Arora, former secretary of Bank More Chamber of Commerce Association sat on fast from 11 am to 5 pm.

After breaking the fast, Surendra Arora said that traders would again launch the agitation if the state government fails to initiate steps for the improvement of the power supply that has badly plagued the business activities.

Bank More is considered the posh business hub of Dhanbad. Rattled by the power crisis, the traders of the region kick-started a three-day protest on Thursday with a demonstration against the state government by wearing black badges. On the second day, they observed ‘silent dharna’ on Friday and on the third day (today) they sat on a fast.

Prabhat Siroliya, the president of Bank More Chamber of Commerce Association, said that the traders are compelled to go on the agitation path at the cost of their business activities as the state government and JBVNL are not taking cognizance of traders’ problem. Due to poor power supply, the traders have to face a massive problem as business activities fall badly during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the new General Manager of Dhanbad JBVNL Area Board HK Singh, who assumed charge today, said that Dhanbad is facing a power crisis but he would initiate a positive step for maintaining continuous supply.

He told the media persons that he would try to get an additional power supply from Kandra National Grid to combat the crisis and reduce dependence on DVC.
