Dumka, July 5: In a sensational incident an elderly woman was beheaded and private part chopped off on the pretext of practicing witchcraft in Dhobna village under Karmatand police station of Jamtara district.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sukhodi Hembrom (55) who had gone missing since last Wednesday when she had gone to her daughter’s home in Rashidih village in the neighbourhood.

Police recovered the dead body, which was buried along the riverbank, late last night and sent it for postmortem at Jamtara Sadar Hospital on Tuesday when the FIR in this connection was lodged by the deceased’s son Shrawan Baski.

Police said the miscreants apart from beheading her also chopped off her private part with a sharp weapon before burying her in the sand in a bid to hide the brutal killing.

The deceased’s son continued searching for his mother since she went missing but in vain. A few children at the river for fishing on Monday evening found the legs of the buried dead body emerging out from the sand and raised alarm.

Sons of the deceased woman suspect the role of a few villagers including their extended family members as they often accused her of practicing witchcraft whenever they found someone in their families suffering from any ailment or adversity.

The deceased woman and her three sons also approached the village Panchayat to get relief but in vain.

“An FIR has been lodged by the son of the deceased woman on Tuesday accusing his relatives to have killed his mother on the pretext of practicing witchcraft,” the sub divisional police officer (SDPO) of Jamtara Anand Jyoti Minj said.

The deceased, according to the complainant, used to stay at his sister’s home in the night for the last several days as she was looking after her husband at Jamtara Sadar Hospital where he was being treated.
