Ranchi, July 13: The cases of Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand have seen a substantial rise in the last 12 days as there has been a spike of more than 200 percent. On July 1, there were 330 active cases whereas it advanced to 800 on July 12.

The condition has been similar in Ranchi as the capital continues to be the most affected district in the state. The number of cases has gone from 126 to 313 in the last 12 days.

Ranchi Civil Surgeon Vinod Kumar said that the spike in the number of cases is because people are not following necessary Covid protocols.

“People have stopped wearing masks, many do not carry sanitisers and there has also been no social distancing among individuals. All these are the reasons for the rise in covid cases in the state and Ranchi. People should follow all the necessary guidelines,” he said.

Notably, only 23 percent of the population between the age group 12 to 14 have been vaccinated with the second dose of vaccination.

In this regard, the civil surgeon said that there is no shortage of vaccines in the city. The majority of the population is unaware of the vaccination and that is why there has been only 23 percent of vaccination so far.

He added that it is important that people should be made aware of it and educational institutions and media houses should create awareness among children and people.

However, districts such as Simdega, Gadhwa, Lohardaga and Sahebganj had zero active Covid cases till July 12.
