Ranchi, July 14: The officials and caretakers at Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park at Ormanjhi are taking special care of all the animals in the zoo during the monsoon. The officials have informed that the diet of various animals has been changed keeping the climate in mind.

The veterinarian at the Zoo Dr OP Sahu spoke to lagatar24.com and gave necessary information regarding the animals in the zoo.

“Since it is the rainy season, we have built shades for animals which do not have a cage and are residing in the large premises. Apart from that, special care has been taken with regard to their diet and most of the animals are provided with dry foods. We make sure that animals don’t suffer from diarrhoea. Deworming is done from time to time,” he said.

A case of snake bite took place in the zoo two years back where an animal was bitten by a snake. In view of this, the zoo officials are making sure that the cages and premises of animals are clean and there are no rodents which can attract snakes.

“We clean the cages and premises of the animals regularly and also spray medicines which prevent snakes from entering the cages. We also have anti-venoms in the zoo for humans as well in case there is any case of snake bite,” Dr Sahu said.

Rhesus macaques, a breed of monkey which was rescued from former IAS Sajal Chakraborty’s residence, is also in healthy condition in the zoo. Dr Sahu informed that around five monkeys were adopted by the zoo officials and now they have been bred and the number has gone up to 20-25.
