New Delhi, July 17: Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission for his trip to Singapore for the “World Cities’ Summit,” which is scheduled for this month’s end.

“It is against the interest of the country to stop a Chief Minister from visiting such an important stage… This invitation is a matter of pride and honor for the country,” he wrote.

The issue was brought up during the all-party meeting before the upcoming monsoon session of parliament by Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party as well. Today’s meeting was called by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi.

Simon Wong, the high commissioner for Singapore, extended the invitation to Kejriwal for the meeting in June, and he accepted it. But he hasn’t yet gotten the go-ahead for the visit.

According to sources, the matter is still open with Vinai Kumar Saxena’s office, the new lieutenant governor who replaced Anil Baijal at the end of May.

“The Singapore government has invited us to present the Delhi model at a world-class conference,” Kejriwal wrote in his letter.

“The Delhi model will be presented in front of many big leaders around the world. The whole world wants to know about the Delhi model. Give permission as soon as possible so that I can elevate the name of the country with this visit,” he added.
