Ramgarh, July 27: Hazaribagh Civil Court on Tuesday, July 26, sentenced two convicts in a drug transportation case to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under section 15 (c) of the NDPS Act and a fine of Rs one lakh each. In default of payment of fine, both shall undergo further rigorous imprisonment of one year each.
The sentence was pronounced by District and Sessions Judge II cum Special Judge NDPS Dinesh Kumar Mishra.
The convicts Anil Bishnoi and Raju Ram are residents of the Jodhpur district of Rajasthan state.
The case dates back to June 5, 2018, when a trailer was confiscated near Pandeybara Dev Petrol Pump under GT Road Chauparan police station. When the vehicle was searched, 1000 kilograms of Doda were recovered and the police arrested the driver Anil Bishnoi and helper Raju Ram. The duo was sent to judicial custody taking appropriate action.
Special Public Prosecutor NDPS Shashikant Ojha presented the case based on six prosecution witnesses and forensic science laboratory. On the other hand, Vikas Chandra was advocate on behalf of the defense side. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court pronounced the sentence.
