New Delhi, Aug 7: After conducting searches at Batla House in New Delhi, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) announced on Sunday that it has detained an accused for allegedly being involved in the activities of the Islamic State (ISIS) module case.
The NIA had earlier this week nabbed three people in Karnataka for their alleged connections to ISIS handlers. The anti-terror agency conducted a statewide raid last Sunday that included the detentions in Karnataka.
The raids in Karnataka took place in the Tumakuru district and two locations in the Bhatkal area of the Uttara Kannada district. State police officials claimed that the NIA had requested assistance from the local police in two cases.
Sajid Makrani, a native of Maharashtra, was one of the suspects. According to authorities, he is a third-year student at a Tumkuru unani college.
In the case involving ISIS activities, the agency searched 13 suspects’ homes in six states, including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. On June 25, the NIA suo-motoly filed the case in Delhi under sections 153A and 153B of the IPC as well as sections 18, 18B, 38, 39, and 40 of the UA (P) Act.
