New Delhi: Congress launched a sharp attack on the Modi government over rising inflation in the country, with party MP and spokesperson Jairam Ramesh posting on X that the high-voltage impact of inflation was now weighing heavily even on festive celebrations, accusing the government of delivering a fresh inflationary shock to the public’s finances every week.
Ramesh Highlights Sharp Rise in Kitchen Staple Prices
Ramesh expressed concern over the rising prices of kitchen essentials, noting that wholesale onion prices had doubled in just three weeks, while sugar prices had risen by 25 percent. He said prices of arhar, urad, mustard and refined oil were also soaring, and that dry fruits such as almonds, cashews, pistachios, raisins and walnuts had become more expensive ahead of Diwali, adding that rising milk and sugar prices were also pushing up the cost of sweets.
Congress MP Cites Rising Ghee and Spice Prices
The Congress MP said prices of ghee and spices were also on the rise, remarking pointedly that with kitchens becoming costlier, festivals more expensive, and household budgets under strain, the government appeared unable to see the shock inflation was inflicting on the public.
Ramesh Accuses Government of Masking Inflation with Data Manipulation
Ramesh alleged that instead of controlling inflation, the government was attempting to conceal its impact through statistical manoeuvring, asserting that no amount of data manipulation could hide the real burden of inflation, as the public was witnessing it firsthand.
