Ranchi, Aug 10: The Fourth Special court of Kolkata on Wednesday forwarded Jharkhand High Court advocate Rajiv Kumar to 14 days’ judicial custody. He had been arrested by the Kolkata police on July 31 in Kolkata. The police allegedly recovered Rs 50 lakh cash from his possession and charged him for extorting money from Kolkata-based businessman Amit Agrawal to give him relief in a PIL 4290/21 pending before the Jharkhand High Court.

After the arrest, he was taken on six days police remand for questioning. In between, the Kolkata police carried out raids at his Ranchi residence as well as a rice mill owned by his brother. On that basis the Kolkata police demanded additional remand period and the court granted another four days police remand for him which concluded on Wednesday.

The Kolkata police claimed that it has gathered crucial information and evidence related to assets accumulated by Rajiv Kumar through dubious means by using PILs as a tool of extortion. It has also summoned Shiv Shankar Sharma as the complainant claimed that the advocate and the petitioner run a syndicate to extort money from businessmen by filing PILs against them and charging hefty amount to settle the PILs.
