Ranchi, Aug 25: An orientation programme for the District Project Coordinators (DPCs) on the topic ‘Leadership in Health and Conflict Management’ was organised on Thursday at XISS. The DPCs from 13 districts namely Garhwa, Giridih, Simdega, Godda, Palamu, Latehar, Chatra, Dumka, Sahibganj, Deoghar, Lohardaga, West Singhbhum and Dhanbad attended the training programme.
Notably, UNICEF has partnered with Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi for providing technical and administrative support in combating COVID-19 under the SAMPARK: XISS-UNICEF Project in Jharkhand. The project is presently in its second phase.
Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur, Director, XISS inaugurated the programme with a welcome note. In his speech the director said, “As DPCs one should learn to convert challenges into opportunities and have in-depth knowledge which will help them to excel them professionally.”
Dr Amar E Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS, encouraged the DPCs and said that DPCs must instill leadership skills in themselves. “One should always take the lead and undertake their various roles and responsibilities as professionals. The experience they will receive today will help them advance to greater positions in the future,” he concluded.
Dr Anant Kumar, Project Head & Head of the Programme, Rural Management (RM), XISS took the first session on the Visionary Leadership in Health and explained the difference between a manager and a leader. “The leader has a realistic and achievable vision, and he prepares and executes actions to reach the established targets and goals. Leadership entails leading, influencing, commanding, and guiding others,” Dr Anant stated.
The second session was taken by Dr Ashok Ahol, RM Programme on the topic conflict management. A round table discussion session with the participants was conducted in which they shared their experience of conflict while working in the organisation. He highlighted that as a professional, one must always follow proper channels of communication and avoid miscommunication.
Aditya Raj, State Project Coordinator, XISS, and Nawaz Noor, UN volunteer, took the third session on ‘Functioning and areas of improvement in the project’. Their session focused on the various challenges that have been identified that are directly relevant to the project and how to resolve them for improved project outcomes.
Harsh Vardhan, Document Officer, XISS took the final session on ‘Documentation and Knowledge Management”. He talked about the importance of documentation throughout the project and the various techniques and format to make the report and other documents more relevant and presentable.
