New Delhi, Sept 2: The chief pontiff of Sri Murugha Mutt, Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru was sent to police custody for four days on Friday by the district sessions court.
Till September 5, Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru will be held in police custody. According to reports, the Police had asked the court for a five-day detention period.

Sharanaru was detained by the Karnataka Police earlier on Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting two young girls. When he complained of chest problems earlier in the day, he was transported to a district hospital and then brought to the district sessions court.
Basavraj Bommai, the chief minister of Karnataka, stated that his government is not responsible for the alleged ‘delayed’ arrest of Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, the seer of the Sri Murugha Mutt, for the alleged sexual assault of two young girls, and he added that the state police have been given complete discretion in handling the case.
After young girls accused the head of the prominent Muruga Mutt in Chitradurga of sexual harassment, an FIR under the POCSO Act was filed against him. Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru of the Murugha Mutt in Chitradurga is the subject of the FIR.
The girls were allegedly molested for more than two years, according to the FIR. Numerous state and national officials have responded to this issue.
