Dumka, Sept 19: In furtherance of the criminal incidents taking place in the sub-capital town, a constable of Dumka district police force sustained bullet injury after being shot at by an unidentified robber early morning on Monday.

The victim constable Sujit Baybay who is posted at Ramgarh police station of the district was on way to the official residence of the SDO (civil) after getting down from a bus at around 3:30 am when he was intercepted by a bike-borne robber near a church situating in a location, otherwise considered to be the most secure pocket of the town under town police station.

The constable, who was returning from his native home in Chaibasa, said he was on way to the residence of the SDO (civil) to take the bike he had parked there when the robber believably chasing him from the bus stand itself intercepted him near the church and directed to put his bag on the back seat of his motorcycle.

“I did not adhere to his command so he fired a shot at me which hit my leg, and escaped towards the residence of the SDO (Civil),” the constable told the reporters. He has been admitted to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital where his condition is out of danger.

The place of occurrence notably situates at a stone through distance from the official residence of the SKMU Vice Chancellor, SDO (civil) and the SP himself apart from the residences of senior administrative officials including the deputy commissioner and the DDC situated in the vicinity.

“Investigation has been on to identify the miscreant who will soon be nabbed” the officer-in-charge of the town police station Nitesh Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked panic among the residents having already been scared about a series of criminal incidents including snatching and robbery in broad daylight.
