Ranchi, Sept.21: Around 1,000 boxes of illicit foreign liquor were recovered from a room of Sunil Oroan at Tikra Toli under Ratu police station area on Wednesday. Its estimated price in the market is Rs 40 lakh.
Excise department officials recovered the liquor after getting information regarding the illegal storage of liquor for its consumption during Durga Puja, which is scheduled to start on September 26.
“Assistant commissioner of excise department Ramline Rawani got a tip off regarding the illicit liquor. He constituted a team under the leadership of sub inspector Pradeep Sharma and the team recovered the liquor after conducting raids,” a locality resident said.
Probed further he expressed his inability to share.
“An FIR is yet to be registered in this connection. The Excise department team is preparing a seizure list. As Oraon has pleaded innocence saying he had given the room on rent to someone who had stored the liquor, excise department officials are asking him about the person,” the locality resident said.
Asked about the number of bottles, the resident again expressed inability.
“Box is yet to be opened. In ordinary cases a box contains either 12 bottles of 750ml or 24 bottles of 375ml or 48 bottles of 180ml. Once the boxes are opened the exact number of bottles can be counted. Brand name of liquor noticed from outside is Royal Player,” the resident said.
