Dhanbad, Sept 24: Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) VSS Employees Association has urged the health department to provide ambulance service and deploy a doctor at the Sindri Health and Wellness Centre for catering to the requirement of the 70,000 Sindri township populace.

The association in its memorandum to the civil surgeon of Dhanbad Dr Alok Viswakarma has said that there is a Health and Wellness Clinic of the health department in Sindri but in absence of a doctor and ambulance facility,  the 70,000 people residing in the township have to face massive problems for treatment in an emergency.

In case of an emergency in the evening or at night, the patient has to suffer for treatment. Neither doctor is available at Health and Wellness Centre to attend nor is an ambulance to carry the patient around 40 km away from Dhanbad township-based private nursing home/ government hospital.

The FCI had catered to the health service requirements of its employees and denizen of Sindri township since 1947. But after the closure of the public sector company (FCI) in 2002, the health service for people also became defunct. The patient now has to go to Chasnala CHC or Balaipur block CHC for the treatment.

FCI VSS Employees Association president Sewa Singh in his memorandum to the civil surgeon has pointed out that in absence of a doctor at the Health and Wellness Clinic and lack of ambulances, elderly persons have to face sheer hardship for saving a life.

On Monday a retired person named RP Singh (quarter no F-145) suffered a heart attack at around 11.30 pm. “Ambulance service (108) was telephoned but no one received the call. A nearby private hospital in Baliapur was found closed. However, with help of a youth, the patient was admitted to Asarfi Hospital in Dhanbad and his life was saved,” said Singh.

He further said it was not an isolated case albeit serious patients of Sindri township face it often in lack of proper facility. “We have requested the CS to deploy a doctor at least at night and ensure availability of ambulance in the township,” he said
