Ranchi, Sept 30: Independent MLA Saryu Roy on Friday invited youths of the state to participate in an Anti-Corruption Representative Conference to be held in Ranchi on October 11, the birth anniversary of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan.

“The event will begin at 11am in the ‘Gala Banquet Hall’ located opposite the old Vidhan Sabha. Efforts are that five representatives from each assembly constituency of the state should attend the conference on their own inspiration,” Roy said.

The participation of the representatives is being ensured through online registration. Delegates willing to attend the conference should inform about their participation by sending a missed call or WhatsApp on mobile number – 88775 37777.

Persons belonging to any social, cultural, political organization can register to attend the conference for free. The last date for registration is 8 October 2022.

The Jamshedpur West MLA said, “It may be noted that 48 years ago there was a student movement in erstwhile Bihar. This movement was against corruption, inflation, unemployment and bad quality of education. Government corruption was its main issue.

“Then it was only 24 years since India was declared a republic and only 27 years after independence. The euphoria of the freedom movement was not completely over. Under the leadership of Jai Prakash Narayan, popularly known as JP, the young generation created a history of student-youth movement on the related issues.”

JP had set the goal of the movement to change the system, not the government. The change of power was only a stage of the movement. But at the very first stage of the change of power, the movement for change of system died, Roy said.

“In the meantime, the majority of the ruling agitating leaders did not change the system, but they did change their character. The main reason was the lack of public awareness on the relevant issues and the demise of JP and various parts of the Janata Party.

“The issues are relevant even today. Corruption, especially political and administrative corruption, is at its peak. The entire public life and government system is badly affected by this at every level. To stop the deterioration in the social system, there is a need to connect the common people, particularly the young minds.

“Public education seems to be necessary on the above issues. Keeping this in mind, the conference has been organized. A long-term campaign to awaken public consciousness against corruption and programs will be decided,” said the former BJP leader.
