Ranchi, Oct.3: The Jharkhand Police in Chatra recovered brown sugar worth Rs one crore from a PDS shop in Yogiara, a village about 30km from the district headquarters under Pratahpur police station area of Chatra district.

A para teacher Siyaram Paswan has been detained in this connection though local residents say that the teacher is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the case.

Superintendent of police Rakesh Ranjan confirmed the recovery but did not comment on detention of the para teacher.

“The matter is being verified and the investigation is on. Till the investigation gets completed it is difficult to give any conclusive statement in the matter,” Ranjan said.

Brown sugar (an adulterated form of heroin), also called smack, junk, skag, dope, and chaw, is a semi-synthetic opioid derived from the morphine extracted from poppy plants. Pure heroin accounts for only 20% of the brown sugar drug; the remaining 80% comes in the form of chalk powder, zinc oxide, and even strychnine.
