New Delhi, Oct 9: Security forces of Iran on Saturday intensified their crackdown over anti-government protests resulting in the death of two persons.

According to the Iranian human rights organisation Hengaw, security agents shot and killed a driver in his automobile in Sanandaj, and two teachers were hurt in one of the schools in Saqqez.

Hengaw claimed that a further protester was killed by an IRGC security force shot to the abdomen.

“Students in the schools in Sanandaj and Saqqez started the protests. Then, government forces started an attack on one of the schools in Saqqez,” Azhin Sheikhi, from Hengaw told CNN.

As weeks of nationwide protests gained pace, Iranian security forces opened fire on protesters and fired tear gas in the Kurdish cities of Sanandaj and Saqez.

Hengaw said that Saqez, Diwandareh, Mahabad, and Sanandaj are also experiencing widespread strikes.

Following the death of Mahsa Amini, an Iranian Kurdish lady, while in the custody of the morality police, the protests in Iran’s Kurdish area, where Hengaw is a registered human rights organisation, started three weeks ago.

According to CNN, protests were also ongoing on Saturday in several cities around the nation, including Tehran, Karaj, Esfahan, Shiraz, Kerman, Mashhad, Tabriz, and Rasht.

The number of fatalities since the protests began has been reported by the government, opposition organisations, international human rights organisations, and local journalists.

The number of fatalities since the protests began in Iran have reached 154, according to IranHR, a human rights organisation with a focus on Iran and based in Norway. According to Human Rights Watch, as of September 31, official Iranian media reported 60 fatalities.
