New Delhi, Oct 21: After the Indian Navy fired at his boat for failing to halt, a fisherman from Tamil Nadu was hurt while he was in the middle of the sea in Palk Bay. In a statement, the Indian Navy said that the rounds were fired after the boat ignored numerous requests to stop and that its crew had adhered to standard operating procedures, or sops.

According to police, the fisherman is stable and not in any danger.

“We are investigating the incident. We understand the firing has happened in the Gulf of Mannar area near the internal border line,” said a police official.

Dr. P. Ramadoss, the leader of the PMK, has asked for a 25 lakh rupee compensation for the fishermen.

Fishermen from Tamil Nadu have long been disturbed by shooting incidents and attacks at sea because they frequently come under attack from the Sri Lanakan Navy. More than 600 Indian fishermen have perished as a result of pellets fired by the Sri Lankan Navy during the past few decades.

Indian fishing boats frequently enter Sri Lankan waterways, with the overfishing of Indian waters frequently cited as the cause.

Although the Lankan Navy’s raids on Indian fishermen have halted, the Lankan government has started auctioning off the captured boats in a departure from its previous practise of returning them after following the proper legal procedures. In addition to taking or harming Indian fishermen’s nets, the Lankan Navy has also attacked Indian fishermen in several cases.
