New Delhi, Oct 27: In a historic decision, the BCCI declared on Thursday that all contracted men and women players for Team India would receive equal remuneration. Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, made the announcement on Twitter.
“I’m pleased to announce BCCI’s first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket,” Shah tweeted.

Harmanpreet Kaur and company will receive the same match money as their male counterparts Rs 15 lakh every Test, Rs 6 lakh per ODI, and Rs 3 lakh per T20I under the present system.
“The women cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support,” he added.
The decision was made just a few days after the BCCI AGM announced that the inaugural season of the women’s IPL will be held in 2023.
Since the Indian women’s cricket team finished as runners-up in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup, interest in the sport has increased. The team later went on to win the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year and advanced to the T20 World Cup final in 2020.
The New Zealand Cricket Board announced earlier this year that domestic women’s players and the women’s national team will be paid the same match fees as men.
