Dhanbad, Nov 3: Coal India Limited’s (CIL) chairman Pramod Agrawal said that decision on the National Coal Wage’s (NCW) 11th agreement for coalmen would be finalised soon.

Agrawal, in a brief interaction with media persons after holding a review meeting of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) on Thursday, said that talks are in progress and a final decision would be taken soon.

A delay in the agreement has triggered major resentment among national trade unions. So far, six meetings of JBCCI have been held but trade union representatives and CIL management have not yet reached any compromised formula so far.

CIL chairman, who has been on a two-day visit to Dhanbad, in a query said that he has directed to intensify the shifting of people living in the Jharia fire and subsidence-affected area to a safer place.

However, the CIL chairman failed to give a tentative date for when all families in the danger zone would be shifted.

“Rehabilitation of Jharia people into a safe place is a long-term process and its solution can’t be done immediately. However new rehabilitation policy is being prepared and that would help in a speedy shifting,” he said.

He further added that BCCL has been given a coal production target of   32 million tonnes in the 2022-23 financial year and expressed hope that the company would be able to achieve the target.

He said BCCL is facing some problems in achieving the target but chairman/managing director (CMD) Samiran Dutta has been advised to solve the problem in coordination with officials of the company.

Agrawal added CIL has a target of 670 million tonne production in the 2022-23 financial year and it would be achieved. He informed that due to the pandemic, the 1000 production target of CIL was affected badly.
