Tamil Nadu: Five killed in explosion at firecracker factory in Madurai

New Delhi, Nov 10: A firecracker factory explosion at Vadakampatti in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district resulted in five fatalities and up to ten injuries on Thursday.

A firecracker factory operated by Valaiyappan and his wife Anusiya was reported to have exploded nearby Usilambatti in the Madurai district’s Vadakampatti.

The five workers’ body parts were discovered spread over the explosion scene. They were employed in two godowns of the facility.

#UPDATE | 5 people dead in the explosion that occurred in a private firecracker factory near Usilambatti in the Madurai district today, confirms SP Madurai.

Names of the deceased include Ammavasi, Vallarasu, Gopi, Viki, and Prema. A police team arrived at the scene after the explosion and is now investigating the cause of the blast.
