Ranchi, Nov. 25: Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC’s) enforcement team in association with traffic police today carried out an anti-encroachment drive to make Main Road free from traffic congestion.

During the drive, dozens of hand push cart were lifted and fine was imposed on vendors carrying out their business by encroaching on the road. The drive started at 10 am and continued till 2 pm under the supervision of senior traffic officials.

Dy SP (traffic) Jeetvahan Oraon confirmed the exercise saying Inspector Radhika Raman was looking after the drive.

Contacted Inspector Raman said proper attention was given to ensure that encroachers do not return once they are removed. The drive remained peaceful and there was no one to put any resistance, Raman added.

He said that the stretch between Albert Ekka Chowk to Overbridge was on focus today.

Traffic personnel deputed at Kishoreganj Chowk said like Main Road, a drive was also carried out for a few minutes between Bharat Mata Chowk and Garikhana Chowk after it was realised that vendors have created bottlenecks which disrupt the smooth movement of traffic on Harmu Bypass road, the road which is often used for VVIP movement.

A police official said that such a drive was the need of the hour and it will continue. “After work of flyover construction started at Kanta Toli traffic load has increased on Main Road. If the encroachment is not removed movement of the road will become difficult,” the official said.

Traffic management has always been a matter of concern in the Jharkhand capital. Parking vehicles for car owners and crossing roads for pedestrians is the most challenging.
