Daltonganj, November 27: A lone migratory bird identified as Bar Headed Goose has been sighted across the Auranga river under the Chhipadohar east range of the tiger reserve Palamu. This has resulted in locals hoping htat the migratory birds would soon be arriving at the water bodies.

Tiger Reserve Palamu personnel Manish Bakshi and his associate Rohit spotted this migratory bird believing it to have been separated from its flock. This is because Bar Headed Goose fly in flocks and are seldom found solitary. This bird, also looked desolate, reiterated Manish.

“This migratory bird flies at the highest attitudes and has the distinction of flying over the peak of the Himalayas,” informed Manish.

On being asked if migratory birds here are killed, the PTR employee said that there are some unscrupulous people who do not understand that these migratory birds are our guests and we are to take care of them. They do kill them for sport.

The winter of Palamu is not their resting place rather Palamu serves as a stopover for such birds who have a master plan for retaining oxygen to fly high for hours together.

Malay dam is another water body visited frequently by migratory birds however, rampant fishing here comes as a hurdle to the birds.
