Hazaribag, Nov 27: A fire broke out on Saturday night in the parked vehicles near the Holy Cross School near PTC Chowk, as parents were busy watching performances during an annual function at the school. The fire gutted five vehicles including a car.

The incident has also raised issues of schools making parents park on roads san security during cultural programmes despite having extensive grounds inside the campuses.

Sources claim that the said programme was in full swing with a packed ground of Holy Cross. However, all of a sudden traffic police started calling parents informing them about the fire.

A resident of Matwari, Rabia Khatoon, an elderly woman who came to see the performance of her granddaughter also lost her car which was destroyed during the fire. “I received a call from traffic police and rushed out with my husband to see my car in flames. It took half an hour to douse the flames but by that time nothing could be done,” she said.

Notably, total of three bikes, one scooty and a car were damaged during the fire. Traffic inspector Rohit Kumar Singh reached there and called firefighters to bring the situation under control.

Even though it is yet to be determined how the fire started, some said a blast in the scooty battery resulted in the fire. A few bystanders have also termed this as an act of hooligans; however, the officials rejected this idea. Police officials said they are probing the case to know the exact reason behind the fire.

Many parents have commented here that the school should allow parking on the campus during such programmes to avoid any mishaps with the vehicles of parents.
