Dhanbad, Nov 29: A few unidentified criminals uprooted an ATM of the Bank of India ATM booth at Jamadoba Ambedkar Chowk under Jorapokhar police station around, 12 km away from district headquarters in the Dhanbad district on Monday evening.

Jorapokhar police station officer-in-charge Rajdev Singh said a customer informed him about the incident late in the evening. The police reached the spot and found the ATM broken and the cash box uprooted from the machine. Branch officers of the bank were also informed about it.

Police said that the CCTV camera of the ATM had been reportedly defunct for the last 20 days and the bank had not deployed any security guard there. “Locals informed that the shutter of ATM booth also remained halfway down the entire day and night,” the OC said.

As per the information, the bank had loaded Rs 10.50 lakh in the cash box on Saturday. The police officer said how much cash was in the box at the time of the burglary would be cleared only after a probe of the bank officials.

This is the second time in 6 months that criminals have uprooted an ATM in the Dhanbad district. Earlier on June 4, 2022, burglars had taken away an HDFC ATM from the side of NH-2  near Topchanchi Chowk in a pickup van. The dismantled parts of the ATM were later found in Atka village under the Bagodar police station of Giridih district.

Earlier on February 14, unidentified criminals had uprooted the cash box Bank of India near BIT Sindri gate under the Sindri police station. Police did not get any breakthrough in the burglary.
